A pier is what helps hold the bridge up! Take a closer look at this rendering for the Selmon Extension. You can see the tree-like architectural design on the inside of the pier. The pier itself serves as a support system for the arch or bridge in this case. The simplest cross section of the pier is square, or rectangular, but other shapes are also common. The Extension will have multiple aesthetic piers that will include decorative lighting like the one you see below, once it’s complete in fall of 2020.
