The Selmon Extension Construction Team is building a Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall to support the new ramps near the Gandy Bridge. MSE walls consist of alternating layers of granular fill with artificial reinforcing elements such as steel or synthetic mesh to hold everything in place. The face of the wall is made of precast concrete panels. It can be used for retaining walls, bridge abutments, seawalls and dikes. Selmon Extension Construction crews anticipate to begin work on the MSE wall on the west end of Gandy Boulevard early July.
