March 1 – 7, 2020, marks Women In Construction Week! Women in Construction Week was founded by the National Association of Women in Construction. The organization began in 1953 by a group of women to help create a support network for other women in the industry.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make up 50% of the U.S. labor force but less than 10% of the construction workforce and savvy construction leaders are using a range of ideas to attract more of them to their companies.
The Selmon Extension’s primary contractor currently has women working on the construction project in south Tampa as well as in other cities throughout the U.S. Kiewit recently held a Women in Construction and Engineering Leadership Seminar in Omaha, NE that focused on developing the leadership skills of collegiate women.
